In the title compound, [Zn(C9H11N3)2](ClO4)2, the ZnII atom resides on a crystallographic twofold axis and is coordinated by two benzimidazole N [Zn⋯N = 1.993 (4) Å] and two amine N atoms [Zn⋯N = 2.036 (4) Å] in a distorted tetrahedral geometry. The crystal packing is dominated by N—H⋯O interactions involving the perchlorate anions and π–π stacking interactions with an interplanar separation of 3.42 Å. A weak C—H⋯O interaction is also present

In the title compound, [Cu(C8H4F3O2S)Cl(C12H8N2)], the CuII ion exhibits a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. The coordination environment of the cation comprises two N atoms from 1,10-phenanthroline and two O atoms from thenoyltrifluoroacetone in the basal plane and one Cl− anion at the apical site. There are weak intermolecular C—H⋯Cl bonds

Objective. To examine the association of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in early pregnancy with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and adverse birth outcomes. Methods. In this retrospective cohort study including 2389 pregnant women, the medical records of 352 women diagnosed with PCOS were evaluated. Outcomes included GDM, preterm birth, low birth weight, macrosomia, and being small and large for gestational age. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to examine the association of the risk for GDM and adverse birth outcomes with PCOS after adjusting for confounders. Results. Women previously diagnosed with PCOS had a higher risk of GDM (adjusted odds ratio [OR] 1.55, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.14–2.09). A strong association was seen between PCOS and preterm birth (adjusted OR 1.69, 95% CI: 1.08–2.67). On stratified analysis, the adjusted OR for GDM among women with PCOS undergoing assisted reproductive technology was 1.44 (95% CI: 1.03–1.92) and among women with PCOS who conceived spontaneously was 1.60 (1.18–2.15). No increased risk for other adverse birth outcomes was observed. Conclusions. Women with PCOS were more likely to experience GDM and preterm birth

Traditional medicine from drug crop has more than a pharmacological effect so that its use should be acurate and correct. The mistake in traditional medicine USAge and or drug crop can be dangerous for health. Therefore, it is required a complete scientific information to avoid it. It had been done the research of anti-bacteria activity test from crude extract of ethyl acetate and ethanol from skin and seed of Pulasan to bacterium Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli with dilution method to determine Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bakterisidal Concentration (MBC). The biggest MIC and MBC was respectively obtained from ethyl acetate extract that was 0,76 mg/ml, and ethanol extract that was 156,13 mg/ml. In general, skin and fruit seed extract of pulasan (Nephelium mutabile) has bigger resistance ones to bacterium Staphylococcus aureus compared to Escherichia coli

DNA damage and decrease of cellular oxidase activity in piglet sertoli cells exposed to gossypol

The study was designated to explore the toxic effects of gossypol on piglet sertoli cells. Sertoli cells were isolated from piglet testes using a two-step enzyme digestion and followed by differential plating. Piglet sertoli cells were cultured and classified into five groups, that is, group A, the control without gossypol, group B with 2.5 μg/ml gossypol, group C with 5 μg/ml gossypol, group D with 10 μg/ml gossypol and group E with 20 μg/ml gossypol. We found that sertoli cells’ growth was inhibited by gossypol at dose 2.5 μg/ml when compared with the control group. The oxidase activity of sertoli cell also decreased at 2.5 μg/m gossypol. Moreover, DNA damage of sertoli cells was observed at 5 μg/ml gossypol. Putting this into consideration, our study suggests that exposure of gossypol to sertoli cells leads to an inhibition of sertoli cell growth and oxidase activity of sertoli cells at a low concentration, whereas gossypol results in DNA damage of sertoli cells at a higher concentration. Keywords: Gossypol, sertoli cells, oxidase, DNA damag

Identification of crucial modules and genes associated with backfat tissue development by WGCNA in Ningxiang pigs

Fat deposition is an economically important trait in pigs. Ningxiang pig, one of the four famous indigenous breeds in China, is characterized by high fat content. The underlying gene expression pattern in different developmental periods of backfat tissue remains unclear, and the purpose of this investigation is to explore the potential molecular regulators of backfat tissue development in Ningxiang pigs. Backfat tissue (three samples for each stage) was initially collected from different developmental stages (60, 120, 180, 240, 300, and 360 days after birth), and histological analysis and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) were then conducted. Fragments per kilobase of transcript per million (FPKM) method was used to qualify gene expressions, and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified. Furthermore, strongly co-expressed genes in modules, which were named by color, were clustered by Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) based on dynamic tree cutting algorithm. Gene ontology (GO) and kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) enrichment were subsequently implemented, and hub genes were described in each module. Finally, QPCR analysis was employed to validate RNA-seq data. The results showed that adipocyte area increased and adipocyte number decreased with development of backfat tissue. A total of 1,024 DEGs were identified in five comparison groups (120 days vs. 60 days, 180 days vs. 120 days, 240 days vs. 180 days, 300 days vs. 240 days, and 360 days vs. 300 days). The turquoise, red, pink, paleturquoise, darkorange, and darkgreen module had the highest correlation coefficient with 60, 120, 180, 240, 300, and 360 days developmental stage, while the tan, black and turquoise module had strong relationship with backfat thickness, adipocyte area, and adipocyte number, respectively. Thirteen hub genes (ACSL1, ACOX1, FN1, DCN, CHST13, COL1A1, COL1A2, COL6A3, COL5A1, COL14A1, OAZ3, DNM1, and SELP) were recognized. ACSL1 and ACOX1 might perform function in the early developmental stage of backfat tissue (60 days), and FN1, DCN, COL1A1, COL1A2, COL5A1, COL6A3, and COL14A1 have unignorable position in backfat tissue around 120 days developmental stage. Besides, hub genes SELP and DNM1 in modules significantly associated with backfat thickness and adipocyte area might be involved in the process of backfat tissue development. These findings contribute to understand the integrated mechanism underlying backfat tissue development and promote the progress of genetic improvement in Ningxiang pigs
